How big can my manuscript sample be?
1,250 words or less. We do check word count and send back manuscript samples that go over the word count. If the best example of your book is 736 or 827 or 954 words – use that!
What if my manuscript sample is less than 1250 words?
That’s just dandy! If your manuscript excerpt is only 950 words, but it ends at the precise moment that leaves your audience wanting more –that’s perfect! It’s not the number of words, but how it grabs your audience.
How should I format my manuscript?
- Size 12 font
- Double-spaced
- Spell checked & edited (We read exactly what’s on the page so have a friend check your writing)
- Header on each page: your name, book title, and page # (These don’t count toward word count)
How long does it take to get back my finished AudioTeaser?
We produce projects in the order they were received. We do our best to send back your AudioTeaser within 10-14 days, but our talents can get backed up. Check your account any time to review the status of your order.
Do you record any genre?
You betcha! The Chapter & Voice talents can record any project – fiction, nonfiction, memoir, flash fiction, poetry — you write it, Chapter & Voice can turn it into an AudioTeaser. That being said, Chapter & Voice can refuse, reject, or decline to record projects for any reason
Does my manuscript have to be finished before I get an AudioTeaser?
Nope! You can submit a section of your book anytime for recording. In fact, you might want to include your AudioTeaser along with your book proposal or query letter to agents and editors. If you have a sample of your book ready to go, we’d love to turn it into an AudioTeaser!
Do I get to choose the voice talent that records my project?
Absolutely! Go to the Voice Talent page to pick the perfect talent for your book.
Can I submit more than one project?
Yes! You do have to submit each project one at a time, though. It’s an upload thing. We hope that you will have an AudioTeaser for every one of your books!
Do I still own my project?
YES! You own your project! You never have to pay any other fees to use your AudioTeaser. Go to your account and you can download your AudioTeaser again and again – no charge! We won’t use your project unless we have your permission.
When should I submit a pronunciation guide?
If there is any question about how to say anything in your manuscript – send us a pronunciation guide. It’s better to have it, and not need it, than need it, and not have it. Upload your pronunciation guide along with your manuscript sample.
Can I tell the voice talents how to read and interpret my manuscript?
Along with your pronunciation guide, you can provide a brief description of your book and how the scene plays into your story, but we don’t offer “directed sessions.” The voice talents at Chapter & Voice represent the highest caliber of voice actors and have years of experience interpreting material. We focus our skills on showcasing your book sample, so the audience listens to the content, not the narrator.
Can I make revisions to my manuscript once I submit it?
Not really. Once your project is submitted, it goes directly to the voice talent for recording. It’s best to spend a little extra time before you submit to check for errors and mistakes. We record what is on the page. However…if we discover that there is something amiss with the sample you provided, we will contact you.
Will this help me become published?
We hope so! But creating an AudioTeaser to market your writing is just one step in the publishing process, so we can’t guarantee publication.

Why would you decline recording a project?
Out of respect, Chapter & Voice has given our voice talents the right to decline working on a project for any reason. All money will be refunded if project is declined.
